The scientific committee had put together a wonderful 3-day programme that attracted more than 260 participants to listen to and discuss exciting scientific talks.

Title: Discovering TNF, TLRs, and other key components of the immune system

Prof. Dr. Robert Zeiser (B09) receives the 2022 Prevention Prize from the German Society for Internal Medicine (DGIM) and the German Foundation for Internal Medicine. The prize is awarded for the best work in the field of primary and secondary prevention of internal diseases.

CRC 1160 scientist, Maike Hofmann (A02), receives the most important award for young researchers in Germany for promoting scientific personalities at an early stage in their careers.

Thomas Boehm (B07N) is honoured for his outstanding research into the development and evolution of the immune system in vertebrates.

The event on 13.11.2021 offers the opportunity to receive up-to-date information on “The many facets of talent and scientific excellence in Freiburg” by renowned and young scientists.

The world is suffering from corona, however, this will not be the last threat by a zoonotic virus.

The Upper Rhine Immunology (URI) meeting will bring together researchers from Strasbourg, Basel, Karlsruhe and Freiburg who will present their recent work and expert views in the fields of adaptive and innate immunity, signaling and immune response, hematopoiesis, immunodeficiency, inflammation and disease, as well as immunotherapy.

The prize that was awarded for the first time 2021, goes to PD Dr. Susana Minguet (B01)  for the molecular control of the T cell response enabling an improved CAR-T-cell therapy. Congratulations!

We are happy to announce the Klaus Goettler Awardee Ms. Janine Kemming (A06). Congratulations!

PD Dr. Susana Minguet (B01), Dr. Alexander Nyström (B03N) and PD Dr. Dr. Christoph Schell (Z01) obtained as outstanding and well-established researchers from Freiburg an Internal Senior FRIAS Fellowship.

T cells prevent the disease from developing seriously after the first vaccination. However, only after the second vaccination dose do antibodies offer reliable protection against infection.

With beginning of 2022, Prof. Dr. Robert Thimme (A02) is a new member in the DFG Senate Committee on Collaborative Research Centers and thus a scientific member of the Grants Committee on Collaborative Research Centers.

Prof. Dr. Marco Prinz (C03) was appointed to the National Academy of Sciences in July 2021.
